About | Arteaga Species Discovery Fund
The Arteaga Species Discovery Fund is the first fund dedicated exclusively to the discovery of new species. Created by biologist Alejandro Arteaga and former President of Ecuador Rosalía Arteaga, the fund aims to help accelerate the rate of species discovery and support young taxonomists. It provides small grants of $1,000 to $3,000 to individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 who are working on new species descriptions.

The fund’s primary focus is on new animal species found in the world’s tropical and low-income countries. Grants are intended to support projects that can be completed within one to two years. By rewarding emerging taxonomists in these regions, the fund hopes to promote and encourage the important work of cataloging the planet’s biodiversity.
